The Paw Paw Tree (Asimina triloba) is a unique native fruit tree. Found in the shady forests along creeks and rivers. With its exotic fruit, that tastes like mango and banana and sometimes a little pineapply. Trees grow between 10-25 feet. The more sun the taller and more fruit. All trees are hermaphroditic (containing both male and female part.) The more Paw Paw grown in proximity the more cross pollination. Genetic diversity works best when different genetically different plants are grown, which will produce more fruit. Pollinated mostly by flies in the spring but also many other pollinators such as butterflies and some beetles. Producing a dark purply/red flowers which eminate a unique yeasty smell. This Yeast sent is mimicked by the flowers and is different in each bioregion.

Likes moist to well drain soil. Keep well watered until well estabolished.

Small trees under three years old should stay shaded under a shade cloth as the sun can burn their leaves.

A host plant to the Zebra Swallow Tail (Protographium Marcellus).
